Independent, Reliable, Resourceful
Joy Fang is an experienced writer who has dedicated more than 13 years of her career to editorial work.
Her career began as a young reporter in My Paper, pounding the pavement covering a variety of beats from transport to health and community to lifestyle and entertainment. There, she honed her stripes and produced more than a thousand articles involving a wide range of topics including politics, travel, and local municipal news.
Most notable was her scoop on New Creation Church’s multi-million donation efforts, which sparked furore and follow-ups from fellow news agencies. As part of an extensive travel series, she went on a solo trip and produced 26 weekly articles about travelling to cities in Taiwan by rail, an endeavour that was eventually made into a travel booklet by the Taiwan Visitors Association for distribution. Joy’s opinion piece on Hari Raya also gave rise to an invitation to the home of then-Minister of Minister for Communications and Information, Yaacob Ibrahim.
During her time in Today, she was nominated Journalist of the Year for Mediacorp’s News Awards 2015 for her tenacity in chasing scoops, her persistence in story-telling and her ability to produce worthy reads on the transport situation in Singapore. Highlights include a scoop on how a spat between travel agencies and Natas led to the creation of a rival fair, a scoop on Keppel Club’s future plans after it vacates its home in 2021, and a commentary comparing the transport situation in Leipzig to Singapore, which was shared by Ms Ho Ching. She was also invited to several informal lunches with politicians, including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Grace Fu.
During her role as Today’s Deputy Features Editor, she co-helmed a team of writers and freelancers and was in charge of publishing a weekly 10 to 14 page weekend print magazine, on top of ensuring daily coverage of local and overseas lifestyle and entertainment news that appears in both print and digital format.
Now, Joy manages and runs SilverKris, the online platform of Singapore Airlines’ award-winning inflight magazine. Her job involves content planning, content creation and client management. Of note is her involvement in a SilverKris microsite Discover Singapore, a partnership between Singapore Airlines and Singapore Tourism Board that involved the coordination and implementation of an entirely new website, comprising elements such as interactive maps, quizzes and videos.
